Save Yala
I combined my passion for exploring nature, love for wildlife, and commitment to helping those in need by founding a charity organization named Save Yala. In the face of global climate change and mass pollution, Save Yala is dedicated to the protection and preservation of Yala National Park—focusing on both its wildlife and the families, communities, and businesses that depend on the park for their livelihoods. Save Yala, a government-registered charity, has been in operation for over seven years. Guided by the motto ‘Justice for All’, the charity embraces an inclusive approach, evident in every project and initiative it undertakes. As the founder and president of Save Yala, I bring extensive research and experience in child development and safety. A significant focus of the charity is on supporting children in need, recognizing the importance of early intervention to nurture their physical, emotional, and educational development. By empowering children, we aim to create opportunities for positive change, fostering a generation capable of leading a sustainable and thriving future. Through education and support, Save Yala seeks to ensure the protection of Yala National Park, its wildlife, and its communities for generations to come. We recognize that life is deeply interconnected—people, places, animals, and land—and therefore follow a holistic approach to promoting and protecting the environment and the communities that call it home.
Safaris
Food packed for safaris is thoughtfully prepared in reusable picnic bags and stored in reusable lunch boxes to minimize waste. We also provide large water bottles instead of multiple small ones to significantly reduce plastic usage. Our safari tours use Toyota Hilux vehicles, chosen for their environmentally friendly design. These vehicles produce minimal noise and fumes, ensuring a more sustainable and less intrusive experience. When animals are spotted, our guides turn off the engine to avoid disturbing them. They maintain a respectful distance, allowing the animals to continue their natural behaviors. By carefully observing animal movements, guides skillfully position the vehicle for optimal viewing without chasing or encroaching on the wildlife. Our guides prioritize safety and take every precaution to avoid harming any animals, no matter how small, ensuring a harmonious coexistence with the environment.
Accommodation
Our accommodations are thoughtfully built using natural materials and resources wherever possible. Solar panels are utilized to heat water for the showers, while a reusable water dispenser provides guests with filtered water, significantly reducing the need for plastic bottles. The exterior color scheme and decorations are carefully chosen to blend seamlessly with the natural environment, ensuring minimal disturbance to the surrounding wildlife. This design fosters a truly immersive experience in nature. Additionally, outdoor lighting is kept natural and minimal to reduce light pollution. We also offer a ‘free-to-take’ cubby and a book swap area for travelers. Guests can leave behind items they no longer need, such as clothing or a finished book, for the next visitor to use. It’s small yet meaningful steps like these that help us minimize waste and contribute to the preservation of our beautiful planet.
